Some Transition Metal Configurations

Examples of square planar, octahedral and trigonal bipyramidal complexes are shown here. The compound on the left is the anti-cancer drug cis-platin, PtCl2(NH3)2, the biological activity of which was discovered at Michigan State University by Prof. B. Rosenberg. The platinum atom is in the center. The ammonia nitrogens are dark blue and the chlorines are green. The other two compounds are molybdenum hexafluoride hexafluoride, MoF6 and phosphorus pentachloride, PCl5.
The molecule can be rotated by clicking on the structure and dragging the mouse. Holding the shift key during this operation allows zooming.
